Spatial Dimension is pleased to announce that Dr Paul Jourdan will present the keynote address at the 6th Annual FlexiCadastre User Conference to be held in Cape Town, South Africa on 9th and 10th February 2012.

"I am thrilled that Dr Jourdan will give the keynote at our next FlexiCadastre User Conference. Paul has a long track record of mineral policy development and execution and I look forward to his insights on many of today’s topical issues, including that of natural resource nationalisation," said Bill Feast, Managing Director of Spatial Dimension.

Dr Jourdan is an integrated development expert specialising in resource-based development strategies for Africa. He has wide experience working on economic growth and development projects throughout Africa. He is a past President of Mintek (South Africa’s national mineral research organisation), a past Deputy Director-General in the Department of Trade and Industry and a past African National Congress (ANC) Minerals and Energy Policy Coordinator in the Department of Economic Policy.

He is acting Chair of the Coega Development Corporation, advisor to the Governments of South Africa and Mozambique on their Spatial Development Initiative Programmes and is part of a three person research panel for the ANC’s State Intervention in the Minerals Sector Project (SIMS).

The National Executive Committee of the ANC launched SIMS as a 10-month project to critically analyse South Africa’s minerals sector and assess the benefits and costs of possible state interventions. The Project includes the development of case studies and models based on state interventions in other countries such as those in Latin America (Brazil, Chile and Venezuela), Africa (Botswana, Namibia and Zambia), Asia (China and Malaysia), the Nordics (Norway, Finland and Sweden) and Australia.

Dr Jourdan has a BSc (Geology), BA (African Government), PGDip (Geophysics), MSc (Mineral Economics) and PhD (Politics).
