The Democratic Republic of Congo’s Cadastre Minier (CAMI) has contracted Spatial Dimension to replace their existing Mining Cadastre System with a modern and scalable solution based on the FlexiCadastre* mineral rights platform.
Speaking at the contract signing ceremony held in Kinshasa on 5th July 2007 Mr Jean Felix Mupande, the Director General of CAMI said, “The initial SIGTIM implementation started in 2002 but the system has failed to live up to our expectations. With the DRC currently one of the premier worldwide destinations for exploration and mining investment, it was imperative for us to find a better solution. After an extensive review process we decided to replace SIGTIM with FlexiCadastre. We are particularly excited about working with the team from Spatial Dimension who have shown that they not only understand the technology required but also the business process requirements of our organisation.”
Mr Charles Young, Director of Spatial Dimension, took the opportunity to thank Mr Mupande for the confidence shown in Spatial Dimension. “Spatial Dimension together with our international partner Swedish Geological are very aware of the demands placed on CAMI to provide an efficient and transparent Mining Cadastre in the DRC. We are certain that with our extensive experience in similar environments that this project will be a resounding success and will contribute in its own way to the continued peace and prosperity in the DRC”, said Mr Young.
Speaking in Cape Town Mr Bill Feast, Managing Director of Spatial Dimension said, “This contract, together with the other contracts Spatial Dimension has recently won, shows that FlexiCadastre is truly a world leading mineral rights management solution. More and more clients are moving away from difficult to support legacy systems to the extensible and workflow driven platform that FlexiCadastre offers.”

About The Democratic Republic of Congo
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is located in the heart of equatorial central Africa and has an area of 2,267,600 square kilometers. Historically, the mining industry accounted for 25% of the GDP and about 75% of total export revenues. Under provisions of the 2002 Mining Code and subsequent Decree 068/2003 of April 3, 2003, a new Cadastre Minier (CAMI) was established. Under the supervision of the Mines and Finance ministers, CAMI is responsible for the granting and renewal of mining and exploration rights, the transformation and leasing of mining rights, securities on mining assets, determining the financial capacity of applicants, and maintaining a national registry that is available to the public.
