Spatial Dimension, a Trimble company, is pleased to announce that the Mineral Resource Authority of Papua New Guinea has been recognised with a 2017 Integrity Initiative of Excellence award by Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) for its mining cadastre portal.
The mining cadastre portal, implemented with support from the World Bank, leverage’s Trimble’s Landfolio platform to allow license holders to manage their statutory obligations online. It provides the Mineral Resource Authority with advance reporting and dashboard capabilities to monitor compliance across the mining and exploration sector.
“Sharing and allowing access to primary mining tenement information through the cadastre portal is transparency in itself”, said Louie Kawale, MRA Mineral Tenements Administrator. “It is an initiative that also builds investor confidence in the regulatory obligations relating to mining tenements. MRA is enthusiastic to use the cadastre portal as a platform for data sharing with all relevant parties (government, NGOs and investors) to address anti-corruption on a wider scale.”

Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) Recognises Anti-Corruption Initiatives
Seven outstanding anti-corruption initiatives undertaken by government agencies have achieved recognition under the Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) 2017 Integrity Initiative of Excellence award.
The prestigious award was given to the most successful anti-corruption initiatives as part of TIPNG’s 20th anniversary celebrations.
Each initiative was judged by a number of criteria, focusing generally on innovation and overall effectiveness.
Recipients of the award included:
- Online registry system by the Investment Promotion Authority.
- Phones against corruption initiative by the Department of Finance.
- Pacific Islands Legal Information Institute website by the National Judicial Staff Services in partnership with the University of the South Pacific.
- Corruption complaints desk by the Department of Lands and Physical Planning.
- Open Parliament program by the National Parliament.
- PNG mining cadastre portal by the PNG Mineral Resources Authority.
- Corruption complaints desk by the Internal Revenue Commission.
TIPNG chairman- Lawrence Stephens said the awards were not only aimed at supporting and promoting the initiatives to ensure sustainability, but also facilitated an opportunity for the “transfer of knowledge on-integrity strengthening initiatives between agencies.”
Mr Stephens said it was our own leniency as a country that has enabled the wide spread corruption throughout the country.
He said everyone needed to take responsibility of the situation and make a conscious commitment to combating corruption and the practices and attitudes that enable it.
“PNG needs to stop excusing itself for failing to honor its constitution and laws. We should stop accepting theft and a complete lack of integrity being aided and abetted at the highest levels of government.”
“We must stop shrugging off and excusing ourselves for failing to protect the rights of all Papua New Guineans,” Mr Stephens said.
